Hong Kong’s Government to Give 500,000 Free Flight Tickets
In a move to lure travelers back to the city, the Hong Kong government is giving away 500,000 free airline tickets to people around the world. The initiative, called “Hello Hong Kong”, is the result of two years of planning and cost $254.8 million.
Optimists believe that the giveaway could be a huge boost for tourism. The campaign, which starts March 1 and lasts until July 1, will be given to overseas travelers and local residents, with 65 percent distributed by airlines and 25 percent to other sectors.
Smuggling Mark Six Lottery Tickets
Earlier this week, the Customs and Excise Department intercepted a river vessel near Hong Kong and seized around 16,000 lottery tickets. These were believed to be smuggled to China and Macau. It was also found that 600 of the tickets had already been redeemed for prizes totalling nearly HK$70,000.
